  • Toronto Debates 2010 - Part 1

    Toronto Debates 2010 is designed to help focus discussion of the major issues facing the people of Toronto in the coming years. It will provide a forum for strong and intelligent debate among the leading mayoral candidates in the October municipal election. The debates are intended to spark real debate – not mere political zingers – about complex, important issues that the candidates would face if elected the next mayor of Toronto.

    Four of our city’s major community-building organizations have come together to present debates on some of the key areas of concern that Toronto’s next mayor will have to address. Each institution grapples with some of the most pressing challenges in our city — from promoting economic, cultural and community strength, to addressing neighbourhood wellbeing.

    Topics of debate: Prosperity and the Economy: Coming out of the recession, how will the new mayor address the prosperity gap in our city and promote economic growth?

  • Former City of York - Mayoral Candidates Meeting

    Four community groups from the west part of the former City of York have joined together to sponsor a Mayoral Candidates’ Meeting. The Mount Dennis Community Association, Weston Village Residents’ Association, Greenhills Community Association and Silverthorn Residents’ Association are the co-sponsoring organizations.

    The former city of York is a diverse community which includes many recent immigrants and some of Toronto’s poorest residents as well as solidly established neighbourhoods of working class and middle class homes. Jobs and the economy, health and crime are all ongoing concerns in this area. The debate will cover a variety of issues faced by the community which include: plans for the West Toronto rail corridor, deferral of the Transit City initiative and local green spaces.

    Equal Voice, Toronto Women's City Alliance (TWCA) and YWCA are hosting a debate on the issues that matter to women.

  • Diversity Debate

    The Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University - 575 Bay St

    The Diversity Business Debate presents Toronto’s first Mayoral debate focusing on the candidate policies and plans for Diversity companies. The focus of the debate is how each candidate plans to build on the policies which presently exist as well as create new policies to ensure Diversity owned companies are part of the City’s supply chain.

  • Ward 18 Debate

    Ward18/Davenport is happy to announce that a Mayoral Debate will be taking place in their own riding. The debate will have pre-planned questions which will be asked by an individual representing a group with a particular issue or concern that is not only local, but citywide. Following the pre-planned questions, the floor will be opened up to the audience for Questions and Answers.
