Toronto riders have paid heavily at the fare box for a long time. My government will deliver greater accountability by ensuring a fare increase is the last revenue-raising measure to be considered.
Today, during my interview on the Jerry Agar show, I was asked if a fare increase is part of my transit plan. I understood the question to be asking if I expected fare revenue to increase as ridership and transit density increased.
A per-rider fare increase is not part of my expanded transit plan. In fact, as my fiscal policy calls for a line-by-line review of every city department, I would be proud if, as mayor, I was able to find a way for the TTC to reduce rider fares.
